Advent Prayer Guide
Advent is a season of longing, waiting, and expecting. It is a season when we are real about our hurts, brokenness and desires and we cry out to God for his deliverance and salvation.
I would like to invite you to join with us in daily prayer this Advent. Join us as we pray for our families, our churches, our cities, and our world. Join us as we join the cry of all God's people throughout the world who are longing for him to come and visit us in our days of pilgrimage.
Our Advent guide contains prayers for every weekday of Advent. It also includes a collection of songs for you to sing. A link for tunes is available if you are not familiar with some of the songs.
Below are links to our Advent resources. If you come worship with us, we will have hard copies available for you.

Fall Pig Pickin' - September 29
Join us Sunday, September 29, 4:00PM, Cosmo Park, Burford Shelter
After the resounding success of our first ever Pig Pickin' this past June, we are having another Pig Pickin' this Fall. What's a pig pickin'? It's the way I learned to roast hogs in the Eastern North Carolina style. If you are unsure about this foreign sounding type of bbq, don't worry, it's downright delicious.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig_pickin'
So we'll be cooking the hog all day on Sunday, and by dinner time it will be falling right off the bone for you to come and pick off into your own plate. I'll sauce the hog with my own special vinegar sauce, but if you'd like to doctor it up some more we'll provide some standard bbq sauce.
What to bring? Yourself, a desert, sides, and drinks. The church will provide the meat, beer, and some lemonade. Also bring lawn games and other fun stuff to play.
Y'all, there is going to be a lot of meat and this will be really special, so do invite your friends and neighbors.
A small donation will be asked for to defray our costs.

Pig Pickin': June 23rd at Cosmo Park
This is the hog we are eating tonight. He's starting to smell really good! |
Our next church picnic this summer will be at 6:30PM on Sunday, June 23rd at Cosmo Park, Harris Shelter. For this picnic we are going to have a pig pickin'. What's a pig pickin'? Pictures From our Church Picnic
Here are some pictures from our church picnic on June 9th at Albert-Oakland Park. There was a little rain, but we remained dry under the shelter and resulted to some interesting tactics to keep our grill going. A good time was had by all!
Mark your calendars for our next picnic on June 23 at Cosmo Park, Harris Shelter!

Church Picnic June 9
We will be having the first of several summer picnics on Sunday, June 9 at 6:30PM at Albert-Oakland Park, shelter #2.
This will be a pot-luck style picnic. Every family is asked to bring their own meat to grill, a side, a desert, and drinks. Be prepared to share your side, desert, and drinks. We will do our best to make sure that the meat you bring is grilled to your satisfaction and returned to you to eat.
Albert-Oakland Park has both the swimming facility and a disc golf course. Groups of people may want to organize to either go swimming or play disc golf before the picnic. Bring your lawn games to play during the picnic itself.
Mark your calendars, and invite your friends and neighbors. Fun events like this are great opportunities to introduce friends to our church.

NCAA Championship Game Watch Party
We are going to gather together at Erik and Vicki Potter's home to watch the NCAA Tournament Finals between Louisville and Michigan. This is the conclusion to our 2013 Christ Our King Bracket Challenge.
Going into the final game, there are two people who could potentially win the contest. If Louisville wins, Ethan Cordray takes home the prize. If Michigan wins, then Emily Smart will take home the bacon. Exciting stuff!
So come and enjoy the game with some friends and cheer for your favorite person... I mean TEAM to win!

Supply Drive for CoMo Cares
The Women in the Church ministry is organizing a diaper, toy, and clothing drive for CoMo Cares, a local non-profit organization that helps families with young children. Many of the children they serve are in crisis and do not qualify for public support. They receive referrals from Love INC, the Voluntary Action Agency, and various churches throughout the Mid-Missouri area.
We will be collecting new and gently used items throughout the month of April. Some of the most needed items are:
Girls clothing, 0-5T
Boys clothing, 0-3 months
Diapers
Wipes
Toys (puzzles, books, non-battery toys)
Blankets
Bibs
Formula
For those families with young children, please consider any of the items your children have outgrown or no longer need. For those without young children, or those with older children, please consider picking up some diapers (any size) or diaper wipes the next time you're at the store. We are happy to shop for you if giving a cash gift is more convenient.
Please contact Laura Talbert if you have any questions or if you'd like to have your donated items picked up.

Pictures from our Recent Ladies' Service Day
Here are some pictures from our recent Ladies' service day. Our Ladies Ministry team, led by Laura Talbert organized a day to make dresses for little girls in Africa through the non-profit organization Little Dresses for Africa: http://www.littledressesforafrica.org/blog/
These ladies had a wonderful time of fellowship while they worked hard to serve others. Our prayer is that these little dresses will be a blessing in helping to make some beautiful little girls in Africa even more beautiful.

Worship Today at 11AM for Those who Can Make It
We are going to have worship today at 11:00 for those that can make it to church.
The roads are not plowed as of right now, but there has been enough traffic on the secondary roads to pack the snow down. There are cars and other vehicles without 4x4 out driving around, and they seem to be doing fine. The key will be whether you can get out of your own neighborhood to the nearest secondary road.
So, if you can make it, come. If you cannot, stay home. We will have a liturgy and Eucharist for those who can make it. I will record the sermon for those of you who stay home to listen later if you wish.
If you would like a ride to church from someone who has 4x4, let me know and we will try to accommodate you.
The Lord bless you, and above all, stay safe!
